Larry Ellison is an American businessman and entrepreneur. Ellison is the founder of a software company called Oracle Corporation and he was also the chief executive officer of Oracle from 1977 to 2014 and now serves as both its executive chairman and chief technology officer. With an estimated worth of $ 135 billion, Ellison is listed as the fourth wealthiest person in the world by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. He is also best known for his 98% ownership stake in Lanai, the sixth-largest island in the Hawaiian Archipelago.

Early Life and Education

Ellison was born on August 17, 1944, in New York. The Italian-American United States Army Air Corps pilot was his biological father. At the age of nine months, he got sick with pneumonia and his mother gave him to her uncle and aunt for adaptation. When he was 48 he met his biological father.  

Ellison migrated to Chicago’s South Shore, which was a middle-class area at the time. In contrast to his austere, unhelpful, and distant adoptive father, who had chosen the name Ellison in honor of his point of entrance into the United States, Ellis Island. He also remembers his adoptive mother, Lillian Spellman Ellison. 

Ellison remained a religious skeptic because he was raised in a Jewish Home by his adoptive parents. Ellison refused to have a bar mitzvah celebration at the age of thirteen. 

Ellison said: “While I think I am religious in one sense, the particular dogmas of Judaism are not dogmas I subscribe to. I don’t believe that they are real. They’re interesting stories. They’re interesting mythology, and I certainly respect people who believe these are literally true, but I don’t. I see no evidence for this stuff.”

After being accepted to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and registering as a premed student, Ellison attended South Shore High School in Chicago. He was honored as the university’s science student of the year. After the second year due to the death of his adoptive mother he left without completing the final exams. After the summer of 1966 in California, he joined the university on one condition: he studied physics and mathematics  and also first encountered computer design. began his career as a computer programmer for different companies he moved to to Berkeley, California.

Early career and Oracle

In the early 1970s at Ampex, Ellison was influenced by Edgar F. Cod’s research on relational database design for IBM. In 1977 this research became the formation of Oracle. After competing with Sybase which was founded in 1984 and Microsoft SQL Server (a Sybase version developed in 1989), Oracle became a successful as a database provider for mid- and low-range computers. As a result, Forbes listed Larry Ellison as one of the world’s wealthiest people.

From 1967 to 1974 Adda Quinn 

From 1977 to 1978 Nancy Wheeler Jenkins. Six months before the start of the Software Development Laboratories Ellison married Nancy Wheeler Jenkins. The couple divorced in 1978. For $500, Wheeler gave up any claim to her husband’s firm.

 From 1983 to 1986 Barbara Boothe. Boothe previously worked as a receptionist at Relational Software Inc. (RSI). David and Megan, their children, are film producers at Skydance Media and Annapurna Pictures, respectively.

In 2003 Ellison married Melanie Craft at Ellison’s Woodside estate and divorced in 2010. Steve Jobs official wedding photographer and Representative Tom Lantos officiated, CEO and Founder of Apple Inc.
